ALDI confirms Australind site
ALDI has confirmed it will build a new supermarket at Australind Shopping Centre.
A planning application on behalf of Australind Shopping Centre has been referred to Harvey Shire Council for approval.
A spokesperson for ALDI said the Australind Shopping Centre store was expected to open in 2016.
“As the store is still in the early stages of planning, we cannot yet confirm details of its layout or construction timelines, ” they said.
The ALDI store is expected to be built to the south of the shopping centre. VPG Property agent Asher Vukelic, who brokered the deal for the centre, said the company approached ALDI about the site.
Mr Vukelic said he was confident the plans would get council approval.
“We lodged our planning approval application two weeks ago,” he said.
“All going well we may get an approval before the end of the year.”
The new store is planned to be a stand-alone structure, but more closely integrated into the centre than the hardware store.
“It could trigger a significant external facelift to the shopping centre and some carparking areas,” Mr Vukelic said.
The ALDI spokesperson said the company had considered long-term potential and population numbers in the area before deciding on the Australind store.
“We expect ALDI’s arrival in Australind to have a positive impact on the community,” they said.
“We work closely with local councils, other businesses and community and residential groups.”
Mr Vukelic said ALDI’s decision to move to Australind was an endorsement of the area.
“It’s fantastic for Australind, for the shopping centre and for the region, ” he said.
“It will attract people from Bunbury and Busselton even.”
“We expect ALDI’s arrival in Australind to have a positive impact on the community”
