Resilience and strength were the keys to Alice Rotheram being a part of the silver medal-winning team at the Hawaiian Invitational Water Polo Tournament this year.

Rotheram, by her own admission, played a solid tournament, as she performed well in each game and scored the only goal in the grand final for her side.

What is even more impressive was she played the last half of the tournament after suffering a break in her arm, an injury the centre forward admits is rare for her respective sport.

“I had hold of an opposition’s bathers and she grabbed my wrist to try and make me let go, but I didn’t, ” she said.

Rotheram said the team performed well despite having limited preparation together.

“I played a similar role that I play for the WA team, ” she said.

“I just did my normal role and learnt some new tricks off the coach.”

The Hawaiian Invitational was created in 1968 and is one of the biggest water polo competitions in the US, attracting teams from all over the world.

Bunbury teammate Chelsey Barrett also competed in the tournament, her first in national colours.
