'Anonymous' 16th SW candidate revealed
The anonymous 16th Liberal candidate who wants to represent the South West in the Upper House is an Armadale City Councillor who works for Mental Health Minister Helen Morton.
The South Western Times can reveal Colin Campbell, 42, of Seville Grove, is among the candidates who want to be pre-selected for the Liberals in the South West region.
Mr Campbell asked for his identity to be anonymous when the list of Liberal candidates was released after the deadline closed on Tuesday afternoon.
He told the Times today party rules prevented him from commenting publicly other than confirming his candidacy and his role as a research officer for Mrs Morton.
Mr Campbell was elected in the 2013 local government election for the Palomino Ward.
In his candidate profile for the election, he said he was a Justice of the Peace and a council member for Cecil Andrews Senior High School in Armadale.
“If elected, I will work with my fellow councillors to redevelop Kelmscott, to investigate an indoor pool and recreation centre and to support bringing the community back into the city,” he said in his profile.
“Law and order issues, truancy and youth engagement are high priorities for our area, and I will work tirelessly to ensure that people feel safe on their own streets, and in their homes.”
In 2014, Mr Campbell was challenged by Mrs Morton to take part in the “ice bucket challenge” to raise awareness for motor neurone disease.
In a video posted online, Local Government Minister Tony Simpson dumped a bucket of ice on Mr Campbell’s head.
The other 15 candidates are Liberal members based in the South West from Mandurah to Albany.
The big field of candidates has been put down to the looming retirement of long serving South West MLC Barry House at the 2017 election.
