Apprentice training gets a boost

Lincoln Bertelli, SOUTH WESTERN TIMESSouth Western Times

South West apprentices will have access to a higher-level course after $60,000 worth of electrical equipment was donated to a regional training facility.

The donation of electrical equipment will allow the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Company to offer a certificate four in instrumentation to apprentices after their course.

ATC training manager Marie Anderson said offering instrumentation, which involved installing and maintaining control systems, would enhance what was available to apprentices.

"This will seriously boost the quality of the training offered in the region for our electrical apprentices in the instrumentation area," she said.

"The training is accessible for any electrical apprentices from Margaret River to Harvey, so it's a great boost for the South West."

Pentair South West sales manager Mike Anderson presented the company's equipment donation and believed it would also boost businesses that relied on apprentices.

"This allows local businesses to not have to send guys to Perth for training," he said. "If these guys can train people down here, it saves us money and helps local businesses.

"Putting back into the community and assisting with training is something I have been passionate about for a while."

There are about 40 electrical apprentices at ATC and Ms Anderson said the donation was "gold".

"We are a community-based non-profit organisation and every dollar saved is another dollar we can invest in our local youth, so a donation like this is just fantastic," she said.
