AQWEST photography competition now open for young budding photographers

Entries are open for the Aqwest Photography Competition with prizes for budding young photographers.

The competition is open to primary and high school students in the Greater Bunbury region to send in their best images in this year’s theme of Water Art.

Categories are open in junior (Years 6 and under) and senior (Years 7-12) as well as all-abilities categories in the same age brackets to encourage inclusive participation in the competition.

Prizes include money awarded to students and their schools, and all winners will receive a canvas print of their photo.

The winning photos will be showcased in the 2025 Aqwest calendar, and a gala awards evening will be held to announce the winners.

The competition will be judged by Henderson Photographics’ Sarah Hendeson and Paul Verhargen.

Ms Henderson said they were looking for creative interpretations of the theme, Water Art.

“Once again we will be looking for good technical photos where the creativity (and) individualism is jumping out at us,” she said.

The theme was specifically chosen as a way for entrants to engage with an environmental message, according to Aqwest board chair Stan Liaros.

“Climate change means it’s more important than ever to conserve water and preserve this precious resource for future generations,” he said.

“The Aqwest photography competition engages an important audience to help advocate for water conservation, while honing their photography skills.”

Entries close on July 31 and can be made via the Aqwest website.
