Are you man enough to join the Eaton Eagles?

South Western Times

After 36 years, the women-only hockey club is preparing to open its doors to men for the first time next season.

The Eagles, who field teams in the Bunbury and Districts Hockey Association’s women’s A2 and A3 grades, are hoping to recruit at least 15 male players.

Vice president Leanne Gard said the decision to allow men to play for the first time had been straight forward.

“We’ve had a lot of backing from the whole Bunbury Association,” she said.

“Everyone has been on board with us, which is fantastic.”

Eagles committee member Alison Hoy said the club was keen to cater for families.

“If ladies come from out of town and want to join our club, now there’s a place for their son or husband or brother or whatever,” she said.

“We lost a lot of players that want to go and play for other associations because we don’t have a men’s team.”

Club secretary Emma Legge said the move signalled the start of a new chapter in the Eagles’ history.

Eaton trains and plays its home games at the Bunbury Hockey Stadium.

“We are so excited to introduce this and really hope we get the support and some numbers to our club,” she said.

If you are interested in signing up for the team, contact Emma Legge on 0400 197 281.

Legge said all calls would be confidential.

“We’ve never had any men’s sides,” she said. “The club is really excited to move forward and get another side."
