When the Bunbury Biennale opens tomorrow, it will be an exciting and nerve-wracking experience for Bunbury artist Rebecca Corps.

The Edith Cowan University student is among 29 artists who will have their work displayed at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries as part of the exhibition.

Mrs Corps said she was surprised to have her work accepted but it was a great feeling.

"I wasn't expecting to get in but one of my lecturers at university said 'just go for it' so I entered," she said.

Her piece - which she has named Nature of Memory - combines a projection of images on to differently shaped textiles to create the idea of a changing memory.

"The piece I submitted was created while I was doing my bachelor of arts and was inspired by a trip to the Kimberley," she said.

"The idea behind the piece is that memories can morph and change over time and I was previously a dressmaker, so I love working with textiles and I cut them into different sizes."

Mrs Corps said she hoped being selected to have her artwork displayed during the Bunbury Biennale would help launch her into the art world.

"With it being my first time, it's a bit nerve-wracking to have people looking at the work and commenting," she said.

"My aim is to have my own solo exhibition when I've finished my honours at Edith Cowan University."

The exhibition will be open until August 2 and people will have the chance to go on free public floor talks during June and July to meet the artists.
