Bunbury City Council wants to use empty offices in the CBD to show-off some of the region’s best artwork.

Arts and Cultural development officer Anna Edmundson has used her native German language to dub the project “schau rausch”.

This phrase refers to a seeing spree, or the intoxicating feeling that is evoked from viewing pleasurable items.

Mrs Edmundson says there are already six South West artists who are interested in having their work displayed.

She now needs property owners to agree to let the artists display their work in the windows of unused buildings.

She said the artists were “crying out” for exhibition areas and places to create their artwork.

“One of the benefits will be for artists to exhibit their art but also for shop owners to make their windows more attractive, ” she said.

“With an empty window, yes you can see it, but (with artwork) people might actually stop and look.”

Mrs Edmundson said the project would be a way of bringing art to the people. “You don’t have to go to an art gallery or you don’t even need to look for art or appreciate art, ” she said.

“You just need to have it around you. It will be great to see it wherever you go.”

Mrs Edmundson will act as a “connector” by placing the artwork into the empty offices.

“I want to keep it as straight forward and simple for both of them, ” she said.
