A successful State championship campaign for the Bunbury and Districts Little Athletics Club has been highlighted by three athletes who brought home four gold medals between them.

The club sent 41 athletes to this year's 2016 State Track and Field Championships which was held on March 19 and 20 at the WA Athletics Stadium.

From those 41 athletes, the club brought home four gold medals, nine silver and seven bronze as well as a number of athletes recording personal bests in their respective events.

Young athletics star Liam Hutton was the standout, winning two gold medals, one in the under-14 400m run and another in the under-14 multi, which consists of an 800m and 100m runs, 90m hurdles race, long jump and discus.

Liam said heading into the competition he was confident he would perform well.

"I knew my times were up there," he said.

"I knew I had a chance."

Tiahna Sears, 17, won gold in the under-17 girls 800m run.

The win was particularly remarkable for Tiahna because she competed in the race in between games of representative basketball in Perth.

Tiahna said despite medalling every year, she was not sure if she would win.

"I have never done it (athletics) seriously," she said.

"I have done it (athletics) between basketball just for fitness."

The youngest gold medallist from the club, Brock Kenny, 12, showed his strength when he won the shot put with 10.91m.

BDLAC president Paul Lever said he was pleased with how the club performed at the championships.

"The best part for me was the two kids who won silver but didn't expect it," he said.

"As a club we did really well for a centre of 300 members.

"I was pleased with the fact so many kids did their personal bests."
