Aussie's now a roaring success

Three months after being thrown from the window of a moving car Aussie the kitten is as good as new and ready for adoption.

The short-haired tabby was just four weeks old when he was tossed from a hatch-back type vehicle on to Heppingstone Road in Brunswick on Australia Day, suffering fractures to his jaw and front leg as well as a broken rear leg.

A witness to the incident took Aussie to the nearby Brunswick Veterinary Hospital where staff were at first doubtful he would survive.

“After a traumatic event like that suffered by Aussie the danger of the animal dying of shock is very high,” Practice manager Johanna Scott said.

“He was tiny at the time and couldn’t eat or drink on his own so we spent the first week taking turns feeding him with a syringe.

“He’s a fighter and has pulled through beautifully – in a sense it’s a blessing this happened when he was so young because it has allowed him to heal completely.”

Aussie was sterilised and vaccinated earlier this week and has more than 30 families vying to adopt him.

“We’ve had a lot of interest in Aussie and are busy whittling down the applicants,” Mrs Scott said.

“We expect he’ll have a new home within the next week or so.”

No one has been charged for what happened to Aussie on Australia Day and the RSPCA would like to hear from any witnesses to the incident.

Reports can be made confidentially to RSPCA’s Cruelty Hotline on 1300 278 3589.
