Basketball: weekend round up
Torandoes Black star Jason Smith made a deep three-point shot with seconds remaining to give his team a 76-73 win over Tornadoes Grey at the Dale Alcock Homes Bunbury Basketball Association’s A-Grade competition on Friday night.

Black needed to win the game to finish top two and Smith came out firing, nailing six early three-pointers on his way to scoring his team’s first 20 points.
Grey stayed close the entire game with the margin never exceeding 10 points.
Smith’s late three-point shot was his ninth for the game scoring a game-high 31 points, with Black managing to claim second place and set a match up with Bulls Maroon in Friday’s semi-final.
Aces White ended the top two aspirations of club mates Navy, defeating the undermanned squad 78-68 despite Wade Hitchcock’s 33 points.
Veterans Lee Smith (19) and Aaron Edwards (12) were White’s best players, while Jake Kobzeff added 13 points for Navy, who will now take on Busselton in Friday’s knock-out semi-final.
Bulls Maroon and Bulls Gold played a dead rubber, with Gold unable to qualify for the finals and Maroon guaranteed a top two position after winning the high-scoring affair 142-89.
Trent Worthington scored 54 points for the match for the winners with Michael Gliddon adding 19, while Sharieff Nepe hit 12 three-pointers on his way to 40 points for Gold, who nailed 25 three-pointers as a team.
Busselton welcomed back guard Cameron Bell after two months out with an ankle injury and he top scored for his side with 14 points in their 74-52 win over Tornadoes Red.
In the women’s matches, Aces White defeated club mates Blue 85-38 with Tiahna Sears scoring 23 points for the winners.
Georgia Denehey added 15 for White, while Kate Fielding (23) and Demi Liddle (10) were the best for Blue.
Bulls defeated Busselton 47-37 with Shannon McRobert scoring 14 points for the winners and Georgia O’Neil scoring 10 for the losing side.
