Two friends, one 1972 Kombi and plenty of kilometres will form part of this year’s Wescarpade contingent.

Darren Kenny and Chris Macri will hit the road for a second straight year after picking up their Kombi just before the 2015 event.

One year and plenty of work to the van later and the pair are ready to drive to Dongara for Saturday’s start of the event.

“It’s a chance to just catch up with everyone else that does it,” Mr Macri said.

“They’re all very like-minded, genuine people.”

The Wescarpade is a major fundraiser for Camp Quality and the pair, who call themselves the Beach Boys, are part of a bigger South West group.

They have raised about $70,000 as part of the $800,000 raised by the group.

Fundraising events have included a function with former AFL player and coach Danny Frawley, a charity boxing night in July and catering during January’s bushfires.

All cars in Wescarpade have a theme and the Kombi has been named Casey’s after Mr Macri’s daughter.

“Our family has used Camp Quality before so we see the value in them,” he said.

Mr Kenny said the event would be an opportunity to meet up with other members of the South West group but joked there were “a couple of bad apples from Donnybrook” among them.

After Saturday’s official start in Dongara, Wescarpade will continue north to Geraldton over the next week.
