The energy powerhouse of the South West is on track to becoming the region’s latest town to trial electronic scooters by one of Australia’s biggest shared-mobility providers.

Beam representatives Mia Onorato-Sartari and Stuart O’Callaghan made a presentation to Collie about the potential to introduce e-scooters into Collie.

The iconic purple scooters first arrived in Bunbury in December 2021, becoming so popular the company had to double its geofence size in the regional centre in July.

Beam’s Climate Neutral Certified scooters aligns with Collie’s push towards renewable and green energy solutions as the traditional State’s electricity heart transitions away from coal-powered technologies.

A company spokesperson said they were looking forward to further discussions with the council.

“We were pleased to have the opportunity to present on Beam’s shared micromobility operations to the local council last week, to give councillors an understanding of our community and safety-led operations, local team, and the advanced technology behind shared e-scooters,” a Beam spokesperson said.

“With every trip on a Beam being carbon-neutral, micromobility can aid in modal shift away from cars, and provide increased connectivity for residents and visitors to travel, which we’ve seen in other cities and towns where we operate.”

Data collected from the e-scooters users showed six out of 10 Beam trips in Australia were accompanied by a purchase at a local business.

“We see shared micromobility as playing an important role in stimulating the economy at a local level, and have Beam business support programs to aid this further,” the spokesperson said.
