The Printsync South West Slammers women’s side put up a tough performance against the Kalamunda Eastern Suns on Sunday, but failed to capitalise, losing by 35 points.

The Slammers failed to score more than 20 points in a quarter, as poor shooting cost them at the Ray Owens Sports Centre, where the Suns went on to win comfortably 105-68.

Slammers recruit Courtney Bayliss tried to inspire her team, scoring 32 points and grabbing nine rebounds in a great display, but none of her teammates got their scoring into double figures as the visitors suffered another loss.

For the Suns it was Carley Mijovic who scored 30 points and grabbing 12 rebounds to record a double-double.

The Suns broke out to a seven-point quarter time lead and never looked back, adding to their lead in each quarter as the Slammers struggled on the scoreboard.

Dena English (nine points and five assists) and Brittany Gliddon (six points and seven rebounds) failed to have their usual impact, while Georgia Denehey managed seven rebounds despite being outsized.

The Suns shared the scoring load, with four players getting into double figures, as they worked hard to spread the Slammers’ defence.

The home side was also dominant on the boards, recording 56 rebounds to just 36.
