Big souvenir edition celebrates SW colourful history

South Western Times

To celebrate 125 years of continuous publishing, the South Western Times will this week feature a special, 80-page liftout documenting the history of Bunbury and the South West.

The souvenir edition will feature a broad history of the region and the newspaper which started in January 1888 as the Southern Advertiser, changed its name to the Southern Times later that year and then settled on the South Western Times in 1917.

Prominent people of the region will be featured, as well as an entertaining history of advertising, a look back in time at the city’s hotels and a fascinating account of the events which shaped the region.

Readers can also reflect on the biggest news to have come to the South West with the reproduction of a front page of the South Western Times every year from 1951.

In addition to the souvenir feature, the Times will mark the occasion with a town crier yelling the news on Thursday and Friday.

You will hear him in the Bunbury CBD on Thursday from 8am to 9am and 11am to 1pm, and on Friday from 8am to 9am.

Newsagents around town will take on a new look to celebrate and 621 Spirit Radio will be at the South Western Times office for a live broadcast on Thursday morning.

Look out for your special souvenir edition in the South Western Times this week.
