The South West Phoenix’s season could be back on track after they defeated Morley-Windmills 3-0 at WML Stadium on Saturday.

It was the Phoenix’s first win since May 5, when they claimed a 2-0 win over Ashfield.

The victory lifted them off the bottom of the Football West State League Division One ladder, ahead of Saturday’s clash against Mandurah City at the Securitas Protect Stadium.

Goals to Jayden Prosser, Lee Stewart and Jack Eades gave the Phoenix just their third victory from 10 games.

Phoenix coach Tony Novello said the team got its just rewards for a fantastic performance.

“We could have won 6-0,” he said.

“It is the first time all year that I have had all my players available.

“We missed a penalty and had a number of other chances.”

The Phoenix had a number of opportunities to score in the first half, but it took a strike from Prosser to give the home side their first goal.

Eades then doubled the advantage when he put a penalty into the back of the net.

The Phoenix were awarded another penalty, which they missed, before Stewart slotted the South West team’s final goal, when he finished a nice build up from the midfield.

Novello said his team could not take Mandurah lightly.

“If we go with the attitude that we won last week now everything is going to be easy, we can forget about it,” he said.

“We need to carry on from where we left off. We need to work hard and take it one game at a time.”

The South West Firebirds were handed a 3-0 win after the Perth Soccer Club forfeited their match on Saturday. The undefeated Firebirds are still on top of the Women’s State League Division ladder and face the fifth-placed Northern Redbacks this Sunday at WML Stadium.
