Bissaker still looking for a win

South Western Times

The Printsync South West Slammers will meet a side in a similar position to themselves on Saturday night, when they take on the Cockburn Cougars at the Eaton Recreation Centre.

Both sides are rebuilding after offseason personnel losses and there is plenty of youth on show, with the Cougars having just one victory for the season, while the Slammers are yet to taste success in 2016.

Slammers coach Juliann Bissaker said her side desperately needed a victory for morale and confidence.

"We need to get a win," she said.

"When there are games that are going to be close, we need to get across the line."

Bissaker said recruit Courtney Bayliss would be better for a run at the weekend as well as a few extra training sessions.

"She (Bayliss) is going to be good as young girls look at the way she plays," she said.

Cockburn coach John Triscari said the side had been boosted by the addition of a second import, but he was still going to give young players court time as part of their development.

"If I have 12 players then all 12 players should be used," he said.

Import Candace Williams played her first game for the Cougars at the weekend and was impressive, scoring 25 points and grabbing 14 rebounds, while fellow American Cherridy Thornton is also dangerous, with the 187cm forward averaging almost 20 points a game.
