Blooming beauties provide artistic focus
The annual Floral Art exhibition — opening at the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries today — is the short but sweet smelling showcase from the Flower Designers’ Club of Bunbury.
The always popular three-day exhibition will welcome spring with festivities starting at the galleries at 2pm and finishing at 7pm to give people the chance to see the art at its freshest.
The exhibition challenges the floral artists’ creativity and skills to create colourful and imaginative designs.
Floral Designers Club exhibition chairwoman Eileen Wenn said the centrepiece of the exhibition would be two big and elegant wire women posed in nature and surrounded by phaelenopsis orchids and perfumed lilliums.
The sustainability-themed artwork will tell the story of recycling products and includes branches from trees damaged in recent South West storms.
The Blooming Art category, where participants choose an artwork from the City of Bunbury Collectiontointerpret with flowers, has kept the floral artists busy planning and preparing their floral installations.
Those who attend will be invited to cast a viewer’s choice vote in this category.
‘‘This exhibition is popular every year here at the galleries,’’audience development officer Julie Blair said.
‘‘This is a wonderful opportunity for the floral designers to share the joy and beauty in such a special art form.’’
The free exhibition runs through to Sunday and is open from 10am to 4pm every day.
