Boomer star dominate early Landmark squad
Eaton's unbeaten start to the season has caught the eye of the South West’s Landmark Country Football Championships selectors with the Boomers dominating the league’s provisional carnival squad.
There will be wholesale changes to last season’s line-up with half of the region’s 2012 title-winning team already ruled out.
Ten Boomers, including seven who did not play at last year’s competition, are in the mix for Landmark selection.
Selectors last week revealed a wishlist of 52 players but today’s provisional squad includes 11 changes.
Eaton has the most players on the list while Bunbury has nine players being considered.
Explosive Boomers’ forward Jace Cormack, midfielder Chris Atthowe and fullback William Barnes have all been included.
The trio played for WA at the Australian Country Championships last year but did not represent the South West.
After playing at the past two carnivals, Bulldogs’ star Jordan Adamson-Holmes will be missing.
Donnybrook has seven players in the squad, while Busselton and South Bunbury have six each.
The squad will start training for the carnival on June 13.
South West coach Crandon Keddie said the squad was strong and praised players for their commitment to the carnival.
“Once again the players have really got behind it,” he said.
“I want to make a special mention to the new guys in town who have accepted my phone call and are keen to represent the league.
“I thought we were down in our midfield last year, we lacked a couple of rotations.
“We were down on bigs last year so hopefully we can work on that.”
Among the most notable absentees from the 2013 list are Collie Eagles’ Jarrod Martin and Teke Vernon, who are playing in the Upper Great Southern Football League.
Former Eaton Boomer Michael Russell, who won the South Western Times medal last year, is now playing in the WAFL.
Dylan Bairstow (South Bunbury) and Alex James (Harvey Bulls) also no longer play in the SWFL.
