Boomers stars watch sibling Slammers

The Collie Crane Hire South West Slammers had two super supporters in the crowd at the weekend with Boomers Cameron Gliddon and Mark Worthington making the most of a 24-hour break from training camp to visit the city where they grew up.

Both players had younger siblings on the court Sunday with Brittany Gliddon impressing in limited time for the women and Trent Worthington making the most of his expanded minutes in the absence of import Todd Hendley.

The Boomers took a 2-0 series lead over China in the Sino-Australia Challenge at the weekend with both Gliddon and Worthington playing key roles in the pair of victories.

After a slow start in game one Worthington broke the shackles on Saturday to top score for Australia with 14 points while Gliddon kept his emotions in check to nail two crucial free throws in the series opener before contributing six points, four assists and three rebounds off the bench in game two.

The Boomers crushing 85-64 victory on Saturday was a heated affair with Gliddon forecasting more fireworks when the series resumes in China tomorrow.

“There were a lot of little pushes and shoves and a lot of unsportsmanlike fouls dealt out, ” he said.

“Going to China it is going to be crazy because there is definitely some bite in the series.

“Playing China in China it is always tough to win and after what happened in the last game it’s going to be even tougher.

“Skill wise the games are pretty similar to NBL but the height of some of those guys is crazy — they have a couple of seven footers.”

Australia takes on China tomorrow night and again on Sunday.
