Tight bowling by a disciplined Colts outfit was the contributing factor behind their 43-run victory over Dalyellup Beach at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Colts stalwart Murray Goodwin led the home side to a competitive total of 222 for the loss of just five wickets, scoring 84 before Ben Cooper had him dismissed.

Captain Tim Hutchison was also impressive, scoring 56 at the top of the order, as last season’s grand finalists began to put their foot on the accelerator.

Dalyellup did not help their cause, bowling 14 wides, with only Cooper taking multiple wickets, finishing with figures of 3/62 off his nine overs.

Opening bowler Liam Renton was economical, but bowled without luck, taking just one wicket for 26 runs off his nine overs.

Colts fast bowler Josh Topliss got the home side off to a fantastic start with the wicket of Dalyellup opener Ben Lagan for a duck on his way to 1/35 off seven overs.

Former Marist and Eaton left-arm bowler Jake Boyle was the pick of the bowlers for the day, taking two wickets in his five overs while conceding just 19 runs.

Dalyellup wicketkeeper Paul Jones put up some resistance, scoring an unbeaten 76, but regular wickets from Colts had Dalyellup finish well short at 6/179 off their 45 overs.
