Heartless thieves left a mother in tears after they stole her children’s presents placed under the family’s Christmas tree in a brazen burglary in Dalyellup this week.

Helen Radford said she burst into tears after discovering wrapping paper in her driveway yesterday.

“My youngest asked me where the presents had gone and that’s when I realised the four watches I had bought from Hillzeez for them had been stolen,” she said.

“I realised that the side door was unlocked, I don’t usually use it and I didn’t realise it was unlocked.

“I worked out they had gone into my lounge room while my family was sleeping and gone through drawers and my mail but luckily all they took were the presents and nothing else.”

Ms Radford said although she was devastated, she would not let her children go without presents during Christmas.

“I started to get organised for Christmas earlier this year and at least I have some time now to buy presents for my kids,” she said.

“It’s a low act to steal someone’s presents before Christmas.”

Bunbury police acting officer-in-charge Sgt Matt Leishman said he was aware of a number of burglaries in houses and cars in Dalyellup during Wednesday night.

“There are a number of reasons why these things happen at this time of year including because the weather is nice and people can become lax with their home security by leaving doors and windows open,” he said.

“It’s important for people to have crime prevention strategies in place and report suspicious behaviour.”
