A Bunbury health organisation is hoping to break down the barriers around discussing women’s sexuality at an information session later this week.

The South West Women’s Health and Information Centre is holding the Let’s Talk Sex event at the Waters Edge Cafe and Restaurant on June 23.

Clinical sexologist Helena Greene will lead the session and talk about sexuality and sexual self-esteem among other topics.

Centre health educator Anne Mackay said the idea of holding the event came out of comments from the organisation’s clients.

“We find that women want to talk about menopause, incontinence and depression and so we have a holistic model of health that focuses on diet, sleep and relationships,” she said.

“People don’t usually talk about sex but women have concerns and they want to talk about them.

“So we thought, let’s put it together and dispel some of the myths about sex in a healthy environment.” Mrs Mackay said the clients she saw wanted to discuss their relationships and sexuality.

“We see FIFO mums who want to look at how they can balance their relationships,” she said.

“Sexuality can be a taboo subject but we want to put it into the open and normalise it because not many people talk about it.”

Mrs Mackay said the session would be interactive and attendees would be able to ask questions.
