Bulls win thriller

A goal after the siren to Reece Blechynden gave the Harvey Bulls a heart-stopping two-point win against Harvey-Brunswick-Leschenault tonight at Hands Oval.

The midfielder marked on the siren and kicked truly to give the Bulls a 9.5 (59) to 8.9 (57) win and eliminated their arch-rivals.

Kicking against the wind in the last term, the Lions had all the run of play, but kicked two goals from their seven shots, which they would rue late in the contest.

The game's momentum was traded between the two sides all night, with the Bulls pushing hard in the second and third terms.

Bulls co-captain Josh Krispyn had an outstanding game in the midfield, while Darren Rumble cleaned up across half-back all night for Harvey.

The Lions' midfield of Eli Smith, Lloyd Beever, Cameron Pether and Reece Gelmi fought hard all night and had the Lions on top on a number of occassion.

Smith kicked a vital goal on the half-time break to keep the Lions in the game after Harvey took control.

But the Lions struggled when they had the breeze in the second term, kicking two goals while the Bulls continued their momentum.

The Lions came out after the final break all guns blazing, but missed their first three shots through Daniel Italiano and Smith.

Chris Buchanan finally found the middle of the sticks, before Jay Walton gave the Lions an unlikely lead.

But after 12 minutes of tough play, a quick kick out congestion landed in the hands of Blechynden, who kicked truly to the jubilation of the Bulls' fans.

Earlier in the day, the Lions' colts side defeated Bunbury by 32-points to make the grand final, while the reserves beat the Eaton Boomers by 14 points.
