Bunbury ballroom upgrade fills function room gap

South Western Times

The need for more function rooms in Bunbury has resulted in the construction of a new ballroom at the Lighthouse Beach Resort.

The new ballroom can be separated into three rooms and two prefunction areas and will be able to seat more than 300 people once it is completed — hopefully by mid- September.

Resort marketing and conference coordinator Laurelle Anderson said the old ballroom was iconic in the history of Bunbury.

“It was the place you came for an event 20 years ago,” she said.

“So we had a lot of encouragement to do it up.”

The first event for the new ballroom is a wedding which has been booked for September 28.

“Over the next six months, 7 per cent of bookings are already full,” Mrs Anderson said.

She said the construction of the ballroom and pre-function rooms were on schedule.

“Perkins has been working around the clock,” she said.

The soundproof barriers used as separators in the ballroom will mean multiple events will be able to be held on the same day without interruption.

The ballroom will be used as a venue for events such as balls, awards and corporate events.

It will be wheelchair accessible and wiring will be installed under the carpet to allow people with hearing aids to connect with the sound system to hear speeches.

Mrs Anderson said the resort staff were planning a grand opening ball for November.

Upgrades to the resort also include 33 new rooms, expected to be finished by the end of that month.
