Nathaniel May returned to the winner’s circle in style with a comprehensive battering of two-time Australian champion Roberto Liero in Perth on Saturday.

May’s professional record improves to 5-1 with the victory, which comes one month after the Denning Boxing Gym fighter suffered his first career defeat to Waylon Law after a dubious points decision in Queensland.

There was no controversy surrounding the result on the weekend, with all three judges agreeing that May had won each of the fight’s six rounds.

Liero (16-18-1) is the most experienced boxer May has met to date, and coach Pete Stokes said the victory was an indication of the 18-year-old’s rapid progression.

“Liero is very tough and experienced and pulled out every dirty pro trick in the book but didn’t have the skill or speed to match Nathaniel, ” Stokes said.

“He was the best we’ve fought so far but Nathaniel was still able to deal with him pretty comfortably.”

May takes a fractured nose as a souvenir from the fight but is already back in training.
