Bunbury Chicken Treat reopens after caustic soda scare

The Chicken Treat on Blair Street which hit the headlines last week when customers became sick after eating chips sprinkled with caustic soda has reopened to the public.

The Bunbury store gained the tick of approval from the Bunbury City Council’s environment health services team after council staff inspected the restaurant and were satisfied food safety measures had been taken.

Police are investigating the incident which resulted in 11 people, including five children under 10, seeking hospital treatment.

Some had burns to their mouths and throats

South West Police Insp. Pete Davies said police had spoken to the store’s staff, witnesses and victims as part of a criminal investigation.

Insp. Davies said anyone who could help the investigation should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
