Bunbury council gift for developer

About 1600sq m of State land will be given to Citygate Properties for free after the property moguls asked the Bunbury City Council to make the transfer.

The proposal gained majority support from councillors at Tuesday night’s meeting and will go to a final vote next week.

The move would join two Citygate properties at the Homemaker Centre which are separated by Mervyn Street.

Bunbury Mayor David Smith spoke strongly against the transfer of the road reserve, saying it provided no benefit to the council.

Citygate director Steve Prosser said the council would gain additional rates.
