The Bunbury community is mourning the loss of a valued community member, City of Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club president Peter Duncan, who died yesterday.

Mr Duncan, 57, had been a prominent figure of the surf club since becoming director in 2000 and had many roles in the community, including his work as a police officer and coach of the colts sides at the Donnybrook and South Bunbury football clubs.

Mr Duncan’s eldest son James said the sudden death was a shock to the family.

One of Mr Duncan's good friends, champion swimmer Shelley-Taylor Smith, has paid tribute to him on her Facebook page, saying that he was one of the 'most amazing selfless volunteers as President of the Bunbury Surf Life Saving Club'.
