Bunbury takes out first cross country title

South Western Times

An outstanding school-wide performance helped Bunbury Primary race to its first Interschool Cross Country victory last week.

Now in its 12th year, the Interschool Cross Country has traditionally been dominated by Adam Road Primary which won the first 10 titles before surrendering last year’s event to Dalyellup College.

On Wednesday, Bunbury Primary jumped out to an early lead on the back of strong showings in the Year 4 and Year 5 age groups and managed to hold on to claim first ahead of Adam Road and then Dalyellup Primary.

Bunbury Primary teacher Jodee Whittaker said she was proud of her students’ efforts.

“It’s wonderful to finally win the event as we have been participating for many years and the excitement and morale it built within the school is fantastic,” she said.

“I think this victory will encourage more children to try really hard to be selected for the team next year.”

Adam Road Primary hosts the annual Interschool Cross Country and principal Larry Gleeson congratulated Bunbury Primary on its performance.

“I was very impressed with Bunbury and the overall level of competition this year,” he said.

“There were individual medal winners from schools all over the district which is very encouraging.”
