Bunbury trio in wolf pack

JOSH ZIMMERMANSouth Western Times

Three Bunbury teenagers are set to wield the willow for WA after being selected to State indoor cricket teams competing at the Australian Junior Championships in Adelaide next week.

Kade Wallrodt (under-15), Nick Fitzgerald and Stanley Hunwick (under-17) will become the first regional cricketers to represent the Western Wolves after selection trials were held in the South West for the first time in April.

“We’ve played quite a few practice matches in the under-19 superleague and the guys there are pretty good – the bowling is certainly quicker than what I usually face but it is a good challenge and keeps your skills sharp, ” Kade said.

“We’ve been training for 10 or 11 weeks now so I know all the Perth guys pretty well now and we’re looking forward to getting started next week.”

Stanley and Nick will play together in the under-17 side with Nick looking forward to shouldering the added pressure of keeping wicket.

“I think playing wicket-keeper is actually better in an indoor setting because the ball is a lot lighter and doesn’t hurt as much when it hits you, ” he said.
