It was on for Bunbury's young and old at last weekend's CBH State Country Championships in Perth where Bunbury's young took out the Division I title and the old snared the Masters flag.

Making it one better than last season's runner-up, Bunbury's Division One side started with a strong 2-0 victory over Lower Great Southern with pacy youngster Jacqui Hutton and veteran Tania Iseppi on target.

This was followed by a tough 1-0 win over Geraldton with DJ Hands Bunbury's only goalscorer. Bunbury continued their clean sheet on Saturday with a 3-0 win over East Avon to win their pool with Jenna Gmeiner (two goals) and Jacqui Hutton converting.

Then came one of the fancies, former champions, Narrogin based Upper Great Southern and the first goal conceded by Bunbury in the semi-final in a 1-1 stand-off.

After extra time it came to penalty strokes with first five, Gmeiner, Sally Brown, Hutton, Iseppi and Allyce Bachos successful against five on target by UGS.

In a thrilling sudden death series Gmeiner, Bachos and Iseppi hit the backboard before an opponent missed to put Bunbury through to the grand final.

Typical of the annual competition the grand final provided ample entertainment for the hundreds of spectators with Bunbury conceding leadership for the first time.

But a fightback after half-time's untimely 0-1 was completed by Allyce Bachos, levelling early in second half to put Bunbury in front.

With another set of strokes looming after dogged defence by Albany, Gmeiner converted the only penalty corner of the match in the dying minutes.
