Can you identify three Australians?

South Western Times

A national touring exhibition has made a second stop off in Bunbury in its 30-year journey and is giving visitors the chance to contribute to its contents.

Artist Martin Shaw’s The Three Well Known Australians exhibition last visited the Bunbury Regional Art Galleries in 1993 and brings with it an extensive catalogue of guesses from the public about who the three figures in the portrait are, recorded in year books.

Exhibition manager Simon Long said a lot more information had travelled to Bunbury with the exhibition compared with the last visit two decades ago.

He said members of the public were encouraged to visit the exhibition and record their guesses about the artwork.

“It’s not so much about who they actually are, it’s about what people’s opinions on them are,” Mr Long said.

He said only a portion of the responses were on display, including those from traditional Aboriginal land owners, families, blue collar workers, big business and sporting personalities.

A response from Federal Opposition leader Tony Abbott, who made a guess based on the political landscape of the 1990s, is also included.

Three Well Known Australians is on display until May 19.
