Entries have flooded in for the inaugural Targa Bunbury Sprint, which is set to take place this month with a full field of modified modern and classic street cars.

Competitors will race along a 4km track through the Halifax Light Industrial Area on Sunday, June 26, from 9am to 3.30pm, with drivers to complete four laps clockwise and anti-clockwise.

According to organisers, entries for the event were at capacity within 36 hours of opening, with a full 80-car field as well as a waiting list of cars on standby.

Targa operations manager David Smith said to have a full field was excellent for the first-time event.

“It is good to see the support from the local competitors as well as those from around the State,” he said.

Organisers have also released the track layout, which includes 17 corners, meaning sheer horsepower will not guarantee success on the tight, technical course.

Smith said there were plenty of challenges on the course to keep drivers on their toes.

“There is a good mix of 90-degree corners as well as sweeping corners,” he said.

“There are also plenty of spectator viewpoints.

“Cars will be serviced throughout the competition, so people can head to the service area and see that on the day.”

On the Saturday, vehicles will be scrutinised and drivers will be briefed, before they head to Victoria Street or the Shannon’s Show and Shine.

Here fans will get the chance to meet the drivers as well as get a close look at the array of rally vehicles.

The field includes some rare classic cars as well as high-tech modern vehicles.

The Targa Bunbury Sprint is part of this year’s West Australian Targa Cup.
