The South West Slammers have bolstered their men's side ahead of the coming season, signing captain Clive Weeden and interim captain Wade Hitchcock to one-year contracts.

Weeden and Hitchcock have been pivotal parts of the Slammers in recent years, with Hitchcock captaining the side in the absence of Weeden last season, who went down mid-year with an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Slammers director Carl Catalano said he was pleased to sign the pair for the 2016 season.

"They are important pieces of our core group who are going to where we want to go," he said.

"With a lot of young guys in the squad they will provide leadership."

Catalano said Weeden would be ready for round one, although he was unlikely to play as many minutes as he normally did.

"He (Weeden) is on track to be available," he said.
