Cardio facility for Eaton gym
A $210,000 spin room is to be added to the Eaton Recreation Centre, ready for use in mid-2011.
The Shire of Dardanup has received a $185,000 Royalties for Regions grant to build the cardio fitness facility and will foot the bill for equipment.
Dardanup chief executive officer Mark Chester said the addition would meet growing demand for exercise equipment at the centre’s gym.
‘‘Free standing fixed bikes have become very popular in terms of fitness and our plan is to have 15 bikes at this stage,’’Mr Chester said.
‘‘People have asked the gym manager to bring the bikes to Eaton and because of the Royalties for Regions grant, it is now possible and will provide another source of revenue for the gym.’’
Mr Chester said there was also demand for two basketball courts to be added to the centre.
‘‘There’s demand for extra courts now but constraints in our financial strategy plan mean it’s not possible now but we will reassess it in 2012 so we can begin planning in 2013,’' he said.
