The Intown Centre offered free flu vaccinations to the community on Thursday, a service donated by Doctor Foster and Associates Bunbury.

Intown Centre manager Leanne Gibbs said it was the third year the flu vaccinations had been offered at the centre and this year they provided around 30 vaccinations to the community.

"A lot of our clients won't go to their own GP so we offer it here and they feel comfortable in this environment as well," she said.

"It is also about promoting health awareness in the community that doesn't cost them anything."

Dr Jerard Travers and Nurse Libby Lange from Doctor Foster and Associates administered the vaccinations.

Dr Travers said flu vaccinations demonstrated a reduction in serious illness in the wider community.

"There is less chance of a flu virus spreading if someone has had the vaccination," he said.

"There are four strains in the vaccination this year and usually there are three, so that means more protection from viruses.

"This is just one of the ways we support the Intown Centre and sometimes it can be hard for people to get to the doctor, so it is convenient for the people who already come here to have the vaccination."

He said they volunteered their time and resources because it was important everyone had a chance at being vaccinated against the virus.

This is the only centre they offer free flu vaccinations to, but he urged everyone to visit their GP to have a flu shot before winter hit.
