A crowd of more than 30 people gathered in the Bunbury Forum carpark to watch Ausmic Pest Control owner Vinnie Galati take the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge yesterday morning.

Dressed in a Spider-Man outfit in the spirit of pest control, Mr Galati heroically raised more than $400 for the ALS Association by selling the right to drench him in ice and water.

West Australian Regional Newspapers general manager Ian Jones was the lucky winner with a $200 donation, but had to send RadioWest Bunbury station general manager Sam Fotu in his stead.

Mr Galati’s reaction was drowned out as Mr Fotu poured the deluge over his head with the help of Peter Frisina, of Condarina Spring Water.

A bedraggled Mr Galati said the experience was just as bad as he had imagined it would be.

For his part, Mr Fotu said it was satisfying to cool down Mr Galati, who usually “runs hot”.

After being nominated by RadioWest presenter Cliff Reeve last Thursday, Mr Galati threw down the gauntlet to Ashley Myatt, Paul Leach, Colin Cawcutt and GWN7 News presenter Noel Brunning.

Mr Galati thanked the community for the generous support his fundraising efforts received, including Condarino Spring Water supplying the water and 50 breakfast vouchers from Bunbury Forum McDonald’s.
