Charge over hunting knife robbery

Less than 24 hours later and police have already charged someone in relation to an armed robbery in Australind last night.

Police were called in on Wednesday night after staff members at Liquorland Australind were threatened with a hunting knife and told to hand over money.

Bunbury Sgt Phil Nation said police collected CCTV footage and were making enquiries today when they found the alleged offender.

``He was arrested this morning in the immediate vicinity of where the items were found the night before,’’ he said.

A 23-year-old Perth man has been remanded in custody to appear in court tomorrow.

The accused allegedly stole cash and two bottles of Maker’s Mark bourbon when the incident occurred at 7.20pm.

Australind Sgt Brett Cassidy said Geoffrey the police dog and his handler Const. Jake Carruthers were called in to track the alleged offender and found the knife, a grey jacket and $245 in the bushland behind the Australind Shopping Centre.

``It was good work by Geoffrey and Const. Carruthers,’’ Sgt Cassidy said.

The alleged offender has been charged with armed robbery, supplying a false name and a charge relating to a bench warrant.
