Chefs chip in to help Meals on Wheels

Aaron CorlettSouth Western Times

The Chefs’ Long Table Lunch has been helping South West community groups since its inception and organisers are looking to continue the tradition.

Mr Coghill said the lunch was an important part of the community because of the money raised at the event.

The Bunbury Senior Citizens Association was one group to share in $60,000 as part of this year’s event.

President Ross Coghill said the money his organisation received was used to buy a deep fryer to help the Meals on Wheels service.

“The deep fryer helps us put chips in the meals for our clients,” he said.

“We are also hoping it helps us boost our coffers with more people coming to our cafe.

“I’m hoping we can build our clientele and we want people to know we are open to the public and not just our members.”

Mr Coghill said the lunch was an important part of the community because of the money raised at the event.

“We’ve also been recipients in previous years and a grant enabled us to do up our updated lounge area,” he said. “Basically without funding from events like the Chefs’ Long Table Lunch, we couldn’t do anything like this.”
