Chicks do it all with attitude
Dulcie Hartzer is a chick with attitude.
Recently celebrating her 90th birthday, the vibrant senior might be long retired but is far from putting her feet up, even at Christmas.
A founding member of Chicks With Attitude, Mrs Hartzer and nine others from the Country Women’s Association of Australia perform more than 90 concerts each year, bringing joy to the residents of nursing homes and retirement villages around the South West.
Mrs Hartzer started a CWAmusical group in 1969, but 12 years ago the members decided to give the group a new purpose and a new name to match.
Previously providing entertainment at CWA clubs, the women’s new mission is to bring smiles to faces anywhere they can.
‘‘Wherever we’re wanted, we’ll go—when we go to the old people, they love it, they really do,’’ Mrs Hartzer said.
The experienced pianist said she and her fellow Chicks felt the name captured their spirit.
‘‘Sometimes people laugh, but that doesn’t matter, we might be a bit long in the tooth but we’re still happy,’’ Mrs Hartzer said.
‘‘I’ll keep going as long as I can.’’
