HAYDN TUIA & GEORGIA LONEYSouth Western Times

UPDATE: A 19-year-old man who survived a 25m tree fall in Capel has been flown to Perth with spinal injuries.

The man, believed to be from Gracetown, was trimming a tuart tree on Stirling Road, when he fell feet-first onto soft sand this morning.

The extent of the spinal injuries are not yet known, but the teenager also has serious cuts and abrasions.

St John Ambulance Bunbury station officer Charles Wilks said the man was extremely lucky to have survived the fall.

"He should go and buy a lotto ticket," he said.

Ambulance officers praised the man's workmate who gave him first aid until help arrive.

The RAC rescue helicopter rescued the man about 10.45 and is taking him to Royal Perth Hospital.
