Foodbank Bunbury has nothing on its shelves to make up Christmas hampers for those in need this festive season.

Manager Carol Hearn has launched its Christmas appeal calling on businesses, families and organisations for support to help make up hampers.

Last year Foodbank Bunbury made up and gave away 500 hampers.

Ms Hearn said this time last year the centre’s shelves were stacked with non-perishable items which were ready to be packed, but sadly this year was the worst she had ever seen.

“We don’t have anything for our hampers this year and we would really appreciate it if people bought just one extra item for us in their weekly shop,” she said.

“We haven’t received anything from the supermarkets yet this year either.

“By now we normally have tinned goods and non-perishable food in our warehouse on the shelves ready to be packed into hampers but this year we’ve got nothing.

“It’s pretty dire, in fact it’s probably the worst year ever.”

Ms Hearn said sardines, peas and corn or some fruit mince pies would go a long way to improving someone’s Christmas.

People wanting to donate food as part of Foodbank’s Christmas Appeal can drop off their goods at 5 Clifford Street, Bunbury.
