City forgives soccer debt
The Bunbury City Council has wiped the Bunbury United Soccer Club’s outstanding debt of more than $41,000 in return for the Soccerdrome building at Hay Park.
The council will lease the Soccerdrome, which is used by the Bunbury United Soccer Club, South West Phoenix Football Club and the Bunbury Country Music Club, back to the clubs at $6000 a year.
When the Soccerdrome was built the Bunbury United Soccer Club received a self-supporting loan of $85,000 from the council.
In 2001 the club’s finances deteriorated and the club has not been able to make loan repayments.
