Coach eyes 2020

The 2019 WANL season may have ended for the ECU Souwest Jets, but not for coach Erin Culnane, who has already began reviewing and planning for next year.

Signing off with a 64-51 loss against the West Coast Warriors at the State Netball Centre, Culnane is determined for her team to stick together.

“It’s quite a protracted process I suppose,” she said.

“The under 20s are still going, so I’ll be heading along to their sessions along with a SWAS launch this week.

“Over the next two months, we have opportunities to have a few end of season things like the Jill McIntosh Medal in October.

“That’s probably the culmination of everything.

“We will meet with our mentor coach and talk about the things which worked and the things we need to work on over the break.

“There’s also the process of player selection, signing a few people and seeing who would like to come back next year.”

Culnane is hopeful Lisa Millman will continue with the Jets next season, however she will know more once the veteran has talked things over with her family.

The Jets under 20s take on the East Freo Sharks in tomorrow night’s first semi-final at the State Netball Centre.

Finishing with a credible 7-5 record, the Jets will be hoping to reverse the result of their last clash against the Sharks, which ended in a 49-39 loss back in round 12.

Jets goal-shooter Sophie Bell will be hoping to rekindle some of her excellent form, while goal attack Mickashia Watts should also be able to add plenty in the shooting circle.

The match gets under way at 6.30pm.
