Coach puts hopes in last chance for side to shine
A loss of focus for parts of the game cost the Printsync South West Slammers women’s team in both weekend fixtures, according to coach Juliann Bissaker.
The Slammers trailed by 14 points at quarter-time away to Lakeside on Friday night before only being outscored by seven points for the remainder.
Similarly, a 32-8 third quarter hurt them in a 41-point home loss to Perth Redbacks after the sides were level at quarter-time.
“I think we’re improving and showing signs of our potential,” Bissaker said.
“What we’re lacking is consistency and we tend to have a drop in our focus, which you’re going to get with a young team.
“Little patches like that hurt you.”
The bottom-placed Slammers are away to sixth-placed Mandurah Magic on Saturday night in their final match of 2016.
The finals-bound Magic could jump to fifth with a win although they could be without leading scorer Adijat Adams, who scored 26 points in April’s reverse fixture, as she was due to face the SBL tribunal last night over a weekend incident against Kalamunda.
The Slammers will have a full squad to choose from and Bissaker said they would be doing everything they could to win and end a tough season on a positive note.
“The same as all games, we will go in with a game plan and want to do our best,” she said.
“In the last game you play, you want it to be a positive experience because you can’t come back the next week.”
