Coaches forced to tough calls

South Western Times

Play for the win or prepare for next week’s final?

That is what both the Carey Park and Busselton coaches must consider ahead of this weekend’s clash at Sir Stewart Bovell Park, because eight days after the match they will clash again with their seasons on the line.

In a unique situation with the league’s fixturing, Busselton and Carey Park have to play each other in the last round of the season before battling in the elimination final in week one of the series.

Busselton coach Greg Hodson confirmed he would not field his best 22 for this weekend’s game.

“It is a difficult one because you either lay your cards on the table and go and play or you hold back a little bit, ” he said.

“We will ask a couple of blokes if they want a week off.

“We will play our same brand of football, which is obviously the way we have played to get to the finals.”

Carey Park coach John Baggetta said the team had plenty of depth, with the reserves in great form.

“We have 35 guys we can roll through at any time that we want,” he said.

“Two sides are going to run out there and whatever happens, happens and then what happens next week will be a total different kettle of fish.”
