A smile will be brought to some disadvantaged children in Collie this Christmas thanks to Premier Coal workers who are supporting The Smith Family’s Toy and Book Appeal.

Premier Coal general manager Glenn Burlinson said the company was proud to support The Smith Family appeal to break the cycle of disadvantage through education.

He said the workers had been responsive in donating so far and said they were part of the broader giving appeal in Australia.

More than 45,000 new toys and 30,000 new books are delivered to children in need around Australia, he said.

The Smith Family’s WA general manager Lorna Woodley said some children were growing up in poverty and a toy or book at this time of year could make a world of difference.

“Supporting education is about more than just what happens in the classroom,” Ms Woodley said.

“It’s also about enabling positive experiences in the home and community which allow young people to feel included, and that’s why we distribute toys and books at Christmas time.

“We’re incredibly grateful for Premier Coal’s generous support of our Toy and Book Appeal, which will help bring a smile to disadvantaged children’s faces on Christmas morning.”
