Bunbury experienced a colder than normal start to winter but not even 18 days with rain were enough to reach June’s monthly average.

The average maximum last month of 17.5C was a full degree below the long-term figure.

Only seven days last month had a maximum above 18.5C with 23 days below, highlighted by a maximum of just 12.9C on June 7, which was Bunbury’s coldest day since July 2011.

Bunbury’s warmest day last month was June 2, when the maximum reached 20.6C.

The overall minimum last month was 7.7C, also below the long-term average of 8C.

Minimum temperatures had a wide range from 2.7C on June 5 to 12.2C on June 12.

June 5 was Bunbury’s coldest night since last October, although two nights in July have already exceeded that.

Bunbury recorded 98.8mm of rain across 18 days last month which was below the June average of 137.4mm.

Despite this, the 423mm recorded in Bunbury this year is still ahead of the year-to-date average of 381.3mm.

The wettest day last month was June 13, which had 22mm of rain, and was also one of five days that exceeded 10mm.

The Bureau of Meteorology’s outlook for July is predicting more of the same.

They have tipped only about a 30 per cent chance of temperatures being above normal, while they are undecided about rainfall, believing there is a 50-50 chance of July’s rain exceeding the 149mm median.
