Collie fisherman found dead off Hamelin Bay

A Collie man fishing from rocks at a popular South West fishing spot was killed yesterday after slipping into the water.

Sea Search and Rescue volunteers recovered the body of John Stephen Smilek, 68, from waters near Elephant Rock in Hamelin Bay, about 130km south-west of Bunbury about 3.30pm.

First Class Const. John Daniels of Augusta police said they received a call about 2.30 that Mr Smilek slipped into the water while fishing with a friend.

He said police alerted Sea Search and Rescue which then discovered his body.
